australian Environment Groups and Organisations

  • Australian Association for Environmental Education - A professional association for environmental educators in Australia. They provide networking and information exchange between the environmental education community in Australia
  • Australian Conservation Foundation - ACF is a national non-profit organisation. The site has details of current campaigns, and offers a forum for discussion, links and publication lists
  • Greenpeace Australia Pacific
  • National Toxics Network - Environment Advocates Homepage - National Toxics Network is a community-based organisation with the common aim of decreasing the chemical load on the environment and of promoting environmentally responsible technologies and management systems
  • Nature Conservation Council of NSW - The Nature Conservation Council of NSW is the peak umbrella organisation for over 100 conservation and environment groups in NSW, Australia
  • The Natural Step - The Natural Step works with organisations to develop sustainability, using a model which focuses on the systemic causes of environmental problems
  • The Wilderness Society - The Wilderness Society is a national community-based advocacy organisation. The site has information on past and present campaigns, links to other activist groups and environment organisations
  • Total Environment Centre - TEC was founded in 1972 as Australia's first environment centre. It is committted to genuine public participation in environmental decision-making and conducts research into environmental policies at the cutting edge
  • World Wide Fund for Nature Australia - WWF is an independent, apolitical organisation which focuses on collaboration rather than confrontation to achieve its ends. It develops solutions by involving local communties, landholders and decision makers


Australian Teaching and Research Institutions

  • Australian Centre for Environmental Law (ACEL) - This Centre is a collaborative venture between the Law Faculties of the Australian National University, the University of Adelaide and the University of Sydney. ACEL promotes teaching and research in environmental law between the three universities and is estabilshing itself as a resource base in this field for Australia, Asia and the Pacific Region
  • Centre for Biodiversity and Bioresources, Macquarie University, Australia - This centre is a Commonwealth key centre of teaching and research. Information at this site includes Biodiversity and Australia, Using Biodiversity Sustainably, and Conserving and Understanding Biodiversity. The site also has details of research and education programs
  • Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) - The Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) at the University of New South Wales brings together researchers in UNSW and partner organisations with the key objective of providing Australian research leadership in the interdisciplinary design, analysis and performance monitoring of energy and environmental markets and their associated policy frameworks. CEEM undertakes research drawing on expertise from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts, the Australian Graduate School of Management, and the Institute of Environmental Studies
  • The Fenner School of Environment and Society - Australian National University
  • Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) - This site includes research areas of agribusiness, environmental and natural resources, manufacturing, minerals and energy. Further searches will lead to more specific information, such as climate change scenarios for Australia
  • Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology, Sydney - ISF has four major programs: Sustainable Water and Waste Minimisation, Sustainable Transport and Urban Form, Sustainable Energy, and Sustainable Development in Local Government. ISF also works with organisations to facilitate sustainability, conducts applied research, workshops and short courses and sponsors public lectures and seminars

  • National Environmental Defender's Offices Network - Through this site you can access the EDO Network. The EDO Network consists of nine independently constituted and managed community environmental legal centres spread across Australia. Each EDO office is dedicated to protecting the environment in the public interest. The site has details of the various campaigns in which the EDO is involved around Australia
  • Law & Justice Foundation of NSW - This site contains a set of relevant Commonwealth and NSW legislation and other internet-based resources dealing with environment, planning and local government. It has information on Land and Environment Court (NSW) cases, and links to environment agencies.
  • AustLII: Australian Legal Information Institute - Database used to search for cases and legislation.

  • Global System for Sustainable Development - GSSD is an adaptive knowledge meta-network for use in conjunction with Internet resources to explore innovative responses to sustainability challenges at all levels of development and in all parts of the world
  • National Library for the Environment - The service includes Congressional Research Service reports, daily news, a population and environment linkages service, laws and treaties, educational programs, jobs and careers, meetings, journals and reference materials. It also includes Briefing Books on Global Climate Change and other issues
  • Planet Ark - This site provides up-to-date environmentally relevant news and information
  • Sustainability Web Ring - This Internet tool allows users to navigate easily between Web sites that deal with the principles, policies and best practices for sustainable development.
