Peter Ampt is the manager of the FATE (Future of Australia's Threatened Ecosystems) Program at UNSW
http://www.fate.unsw.edu.au
FATE is one of a suite of cross faculty and interdisciplinary initiatives through which UNSW will take a higher profile in environmental management.
Peter coordinated FATE's establishment at UNSW and is now working towards the establishment of a number of demonstration sites across Australia. On these sites researchers and landholders will work together to develop and test alternative land management strategies that combine conservation and production through the commercial use of native species.
Peter has a background in agricultural science at Sydney University with a Research Masters in participatory research methodology and an undergraduate major in agronomy and horticultural science. He has worked in education as a secondary science and agriculture teacher, university tutor and Museum educator. In addition he has worked as a participatory research consultant for a number of public sector clients and as Senior Project Officer on the FATE program from its inception at the Australian Museum.
