Sarah Terkes is reponsible for the coordination of Information, Communications, Operations & I.T. of the Institute of Environmental Studies.
Sarah's work for the IES comprises:
- Coordinating, promoting, reporting all events including the regularly scheduled Environment and Development Fora and internal seminars
- Videography (filming and video-editing) of all events
- Administration of the post graduate research program in Environmental Policy & Management
- Post graduate research student liaison and support
- Management and promotion of the Environmental Network portal
- Supporting IES staff and student research projects, a task that includes project management, report editing and grant applications coordination
- Graphic design and content editorial of all promotional & informational materials
- Web design, construction, content editorial and journalistic maintenance of the IES, FATE and BMWHI websites and the Environmental Network portal
- Staff support and training in Geographical Information Systems, video editing, video conferencing, presentations and online learning
- I.T. training and support for all software, hardware and with networking needs
- Coordinating annual academic publications collection
- Maintaining a data repository of photos, reports and other materials for internal and external communication
- Developing, communicating and implementing effective processes for all of the above
Sarah's diverse background includes commercial business management, events planning and promotions, business and information systems analysis, computer programming and web design.
Sarah enjoys the challenge of drawing on a wide range of skills in order to perform her all-encompassing role at the IES. She particularly loves getting involved in the various research projects conducted by the Institute as she finds the work inspiring and an honour to be associated with.
In her own time Sarah runs a small-scale Events and Promotions company specialising in music festivals and parties, and a Pro Bono Web Designs service providing eligible charitable and not-for-profit organisations with free websites - the aim being to help them help others. Sarah is an active national leader in anti-consumerism campaigns like Adbusters and Buy Nothing Day, and also likes to get involved with community events that support arts, heritage, culture, welfare and of course, the environment.
